About
Zach Steel’s show may lack an ensemble, but that doesn’t stop him from producing a wall of sound that would give any full band a run for its money. Using a multi-tracked loop pedal to record all song parts in real time on stage, he creates music with rich, full instrumentation right before audiences’ eyes, complete with harmonized backing vocals that sound like they might have come straight out of a bungalow on Laurel Canyon. Steel combines elements of the organic-drumming-roots pop of Paul Simon’s Graceland infused with the type of lush synthesized sounds you might expect from an 80s era offering from The Cars. An admitted fan of early 90s top forty pop, he toes a line between vintage Madonna-esque hooks and the Americana subtlety of a classic acoustic guitar wielding singer/songwriter to create a truly unique and modern sound.
